Boy Weekend

I can't say this weekend has been ALL about boys for us, but mostly. (I guess that happens when you are .. well.. you and the dog are the only girls in the family). But I don't mind.

Friday night Jeff came home from work, changed his clothes and went to his first flag football practice! He is pretty excited about playing in the league. He played for 3 years while stationed at Fort Lewis and he loved it. I'm happy he's found something that makes him happy here. Jack and I decided, since daddy was doing something "sporty" we would too!

He loves the tee ball set we got him for his birthday! He has played with it practiced so much, that he doesn't even need help much anymore. Occasionally he knocks the tee over while hiting the ball, but I'm pretty sure he does it on purpose because he cracks up laughing immediately after. What can I say, "boy" is his name and being destructive is his game.

Jeff got home from practice and had injured his foot. He wore his vibrams to practice ...
And... someone (wearing cleats) stomped on his foot. From the looks of things, this someone was at least 300 pounds. Needless to say, neither the shoe or his foot held up very well. He was in so much pain he couldn't finish his dinner, so we decided to head to the ER to make sure nothing was broke. Thank you Nicole for watching our boys! The doctor he saw ended up being a doc he worked with at his FOB in Afghanistan.. Small world huh? Doc said he thought he may have a "liz frank fracture"? I wonder if Liz Frank got her foot stomped on too? But Doc wanted a second opinion. So get this... they sent the x-ray off to Austrailia to be reviewed? Seriously, there was no one closer than Austrailia? Whatever. I just that was odd, and sort of amusing. Anyways, Mr. Austrailian dude came back with a message saying the foot was not broken. So Jeff got sent home with crutches and some pain meds. He follows up with sick call Monday morning, we would appreciate prayers that he's healing fine (:

This morning was the Fort Campbell post wide yardsale. Can you say "Kate loves yardsales so much it's a little creepy?" I found a twin comforter set for Jack's room (bad news though, it smells like smoke :/ so hopefully we can get that out. If nothing else I can use the curtains that came with it.. It was cheap so whatever). Also found an old metal tonka truck for the boys. A laundry basket for Jonah's room, a really adorable jacket for Jack, and some carter's clothes for Jonah. That's a success in my book!

After yardsales and naps, we ordered pizza, and finished watching the Buckeyes game. Hey at least we didn't get shut out?! No fairweather fans in this house!
GO BUCKS!
Brutus sings the OSU fight song too. Jonah loves him!

This evening we headed out to Lowe's in search of paint and more pea gravel for the front flower bed.. err... decorative gravel area? I'm not sure what the official term would be but it will look cute when finished. Jeff is still using at least one crutch to get around today. But no worries for daddy, his little man is there to help (:
They melt my heart!

We finally decided on a color for Jack's "car/truck/etc." room so we got a couple gallons, supplies, and headed out. But not before the cashier oogled over how cute Jack and Jonah were of course. Jonah smiled at her and Jack told her he was "two" and that Jonah was his "beebee" and that he had to go "bye byeeeee".  He's repeating everything lately. I love it! He sometimes catches me by surprise though, like yesterday when he said "cheeee pweeese" and brough me a slice of cheese to open for him..

The car ride home was quite funny. Jack has a DVD player in the car. He has just recently started laughing out loud at tv/movies. So at least once every two minutes we heard "HAHAHAHAHA" from the back seat. Usually followed by some rambling about "MEL-MO" (Elmo).

We came home, got the boys to bed and put the first coat of paint on Jack's walls (Jack is sleeping in the pack and play in Jonah's room tonight). We have to do a second coat tomorrow but I love the color.
It's a light blue with a very subtle gray tint. It will be perfect to neutralize some of the bright colors we have going in the room. Tomorrow we aren't going to show Jack the room until it's all complete and put together. I can't wait! He's going to love it!

Jonah's Nursery

With only 4 weeks left until my due date, I've decided it's high time I reveal this nursery I've been working on.
His room is filled browns and blues, birds and trees, and lots of love! I wanted a room where serenity and relaxation take center stage. But I also wanted it to be functional, along with reflecting the old-time style Jeff (husband) and I love.

Upon moving into our house here at Fort Campbell, we were told that while we indeed were allowed to paint, we would have to paint it back to white before they start renovating our house. Renovations are scheduled to start this fall, so we decided against painting until after that. With that said, the nursery is not as... "warm" as I would have liked it to be. But I'm still happy with the way it's turned out.

Before Jack was born, I made him a plaque with his name and zoo animals on it. It's one thing I've held onto through all our moves. So Jeff and I decided Jonah definitely needed one too. I found all the materials for this at Hobby Lobby (with the help of aunt Erin!). I just love the font of the letters, it's quite adorable. I used acrylic paints, an aqua, a chocolate brown, and a cream (for the letters and also to white wash the aqua background). The owl and tree I bought already painted because I was feeling lazy they were on sale. Add some wall hangers on the back and your done.

This shelf was one I inherited from my mom's house. She didn't want it anymore, and FREE is my favorite. That way, if my plan doesn't work and I mess it up while I'm fixing it up.. I'm not out anything. Somehow that helps me cope with the many craftfails I've experienced. This shelf got a coat of the same aqua paint I used for the name plaque, and very light streaks of cream to soften it up a bit. The hooks were removed, painted with the chocolate bown, and re-attached with some wood glue.
The brown chick you see, I found at a flea market in Washington (it's legs are made of newspaper! How cool is that?).  It's little nest came from the thrift store. The birdhouse, my wonderful mother painted. And the two ceramic birdies on the other side were painted by someone (whom I can't remember at the moment) in my husband's family years ago.

Oh glider! Oh, how I have missed you this past year. Glider is one of the unfortunate pieces of my furniture I had to leave behind when I moved back to Washington last year. I'm so happy to have it back, and he is happy to be in his new home I believe. Joined with a wicker side table that came from Goodwill for $10, and a corkboard to hang all of Jonah's pictures, "Congrats on Baby" cards, and other fun paper trinkets. The corkboard obviously got a paint job too. The owls were super simple to add. I chose a picture of an owl (who's sillouette I liked), blew it up to the sizes I wanted, printed them off, and cut out the middles to leave the stencils for me to use.

This awesome antique dresser also came (FREE) from my mom's house. They bought my little sister a new bedroom suite a few months ago, and this thing was just going to go to the trash! Remembering that it already had the crackle paint look that I loved (and used on Jonah's rocking chair you can see here), I begged her to save it for me! It is old, but it still has a few more years left I believe. Lots of bleach wipes to make it safe to hold Jonah's clothes, and some new knobs from Lowe's give it new life.

Jonah's closet and a super cool shelf (from Hobby Lobby's clearance sale) competely the room.

The holder thingy on the door is for diapers (and whatever else it ends up being a good place for). It will eventually get some brown and aqua owls stenciled on as well.

I love this shelf. Well, I love the things on it.. but I love the shelf too. The deer are another pair that came from Jeff's family. The two candles and the ceramic bird are from TJ Maxx. And let me tell you, that white candle... I'm not sure what the scent is... But it's amazing. And it fills the whole room with it's.. self?

And see that lamp? Yeah... I made that! Well, sorta. You see, I orignially bought a lamp (I know I know, crazyness) It was adorable, but it didn't survive the move :( The only thing we could salvage is the aqua blue, paisley lamp shade. Now I needed a lamp... wait... I had a lamp! I had bought a lamp from Goodwill over a year ago that I liked the design of. Only problem, it was BRASS. YUCK! So, chocolate brown paint to the rescue, and waaa-laaa. New problem, the lamp was too short for the lamp shade. It ended up looking very 70's.
Brainstorming took a couple days but I finally came up with this..
And folks.. behold the ONLY craft project I've ever tried that turned out almost exactly like I wanted it to...

I measuring the bottom of the lamp, a perfect 5 inches. Off to TJ Maxx to find a vase. What do you know... they have one thats exactly 5 inches in diameter... score!
A fake flower and stones I already had add in the "nature" and "serene" feel I wanted. A little gorilla glue to hold it together and done!
Here's the part that makes me say "almost like I wanted". You can barely see it in the picture but the little brown base below the vase wasn't in my original plan. After it was finished, it wasn't really looking quite finished to me. It looked like I made it, and I didn't want that. It needed a brown base. Sitting in my kitchen I searched and searched and searched for something flat, round, and about 5 in across. Plate? no, it would look to much like a plate. Wooden Drink Coaster? no, my coasters are only 4 in.
Citronella candle lid? YES!
What are the odds that the lid to the citronella candle
(like this one)
would fit perfectly on the bottom of my lamp?
Lesson learned... Try everything, you never know what might work.
Painted with a coat of brown paint, I attached the upside-down lid to the bottom of my lamp with gorilla glue. Now it was done, really finished.

Last but not least the birdhouse I made a while ago, and the owl pitcher I found at a flea market (see blogpost here), along with a picture frame, find a spot on the second shelf.

So, what do you think? What does your baby's nursery look like? Did you blog about it? post a link! I'd love to see them :)

Being the perfectionist that I am, I almost always have something else I'd like to do or something I wish I would have done. But I can honestly say I'm truly happy with Jonah's nursery. I cannot wait to bring him home :)

Gettled Settled

So far we have accomplished the following:

*bought rugs for the living room & boys' rooms
*unpacked ALL boxes
*bought Jonah's swing (it plugs into the wall, rather than going through 6 "D" batteries a week)
*put together Jonah's crib
*decided on a "theme" for Jack's new room (Trucks/cars/all things with wheels!)
*ordered new bedding for Jack's said room
*Washed all of Jonah's clothes to get them ready for him
*Been to both the comissary and Px more than once
*Enjoyed a local festival (Craig Morgan was there!)
*Started to hang wall decor
*Took Jack to the splash park
*Had two baby appointments at Blanchfield Army Hospital.
*Decided a second C-section is what's best for Jonah and I.
*Found out I'm severely anemic, upped my iron dosage, and started feeling much better and less exhausted.
*Jeff has started inprocessing.
*Jack has learned new words and phrases like "shoe", "sorry", "woo wee" (as in "woo wee, it's hot!" he picked that one up from me by accident), "huuuuhh ya!" (as in "huh ya, karate chop!"), and "nose"
*I scored a super cute maternity shirt for $6 from Old Navy last weekend that actually makes me feel cute being 8 months pregnant.
*Forgot how many bugs there were in the midwest in the summer, were reminded how many bugs there are in the midwest in the summer, bought bug zapper, bug spray, and a citronella candle immediately.
*I crafted something for our friends' baby boy (She's getting induced today, Congrats Amber and Mark!)

*I liked Trent's sign so much, I decided Jonah needed one too

It's starting to feel like home...

What's that in the sky? The sun? Oh yeah I forgot

Haven't blogged lately because there's really not much going on. I'm actually blogging right now to avoid hanging my geometric shelves in the living room. They are such a pain to try and get exactly even and spaced just right. But maybe thats just because I have an issue with OCD and even spacing. It's quite ridiculous. Anyways, when I finally do hang the shelves I will post pictures. I love the way they look when I get them just right but it takes me forever to get them how I like them. P.S. Does anyone else put their movies and books in alphabetical order? At least I'm not setting up a full functioning library this time, right mom? :)

We have finally started to get a taste of summer in Washington. The sun was out ALL DAY this past Saturday for the first time since I've been back. I mowed the yard (more like fought with the yard) and Jack and I took a walk afterwards.
Jack wasn't too impressed...

Oh I forgot I made these for my kitchen!

I needed some magnets and I couldn't find any I like so I just used some left over seashells I had and hotglued magnets to the back and BAM! Cute beachy magnets.

I also gave my old ugly clock a makeover so it could join be included in the dining area.
BEFORE
AFTER

I'm not entirely happy with the brown background color, so that may be redone to a more sandy brown or a blue color in the future, but for now it'll do.

Kitchen/Dining Area- Check, well kinda.

That's right folks, I actually made some progress today! About time right? I've only been here ohhhhh about 18 days. Since June marks the last full month of deployment, I motivated my butt into gear today. I was up before Jack today (that rarely happens, anyone who knows me knows I'm not a morning person, in fact I loathe morning). Anywho, Jack and I took Ty (Marcy's son) to school today since she had some stuff to do with her other munchkin. After that, I finally got some tea in me and proceeded to sit my bum on the couch for a while and enjoy Sesame Street for the 23095723059th time with Jack. (I really need to get him another DVD, for my own sanity). My boxes from that my dad (God Bless him) shipped to me came today via UPS. And I think that was the turning point for me today. When I opened them, I instantly felt more "at home" in my house. It's our stuff. Our things. Our memories, It's Jack's stuffed animals and books from all the people that love him so much, our Welsh love spoon Meg and Cynog gave to us at our wedding, the bible from Nanny and Granddad that we cherish so much, my plaque from my mom that reminds me she'll love me (us) "forever for always and no matter what", all the letters we've exchanged over the years, the medical ID band and the hospital beanie that our baby boy wore in his first hours of life, and the scrapbook full of memories that displays the first months of Jeff and I's relationship that started it all. Between my mom and dad's divorce and my adult military life, it's been hard for me to feel at home in any place. These things, they mean home for me. They tell me that I'm in my home, not just a home. The boxes aren't fully unpacked, but I soon will start spreading "home" throughout my house and let it fill my heart in the process.

I know, I know. Enough sentimental stuff. So without further to do, here's the progress I've made in my kitchen/dining area! Theme.... BEACH!

The Davis family calendar! It's basically a sticker with a dry erase marker. But oh how I love it. I'm a planning freak. To have my schedule and to do list right here handy is awesome!

Dining area. Table is from ikea, it has a hidden leaf below the main tabletop that can be put in to allow for room for guests. I still need curtains for the sliding door, CHAIRS, and a rug for underneath the table. Also going to find more things for the wall, it's just so darn big.

The sole piece of decor I have on the wall right now

Kitchen Sink Area, don't mind the kettle in the sink

Other side of the kitchen. Love my new lighthouse! I have a quietly growing "thing" for lighthouses. I also can't wait to pop open that bottle of wine when Jeff gets home (Thanks aunt Chris!). Let's hope he doesn't make slushie out of this bottle ;) Love you babe

Not finished, but at least I got something done, right? Now the living room? It might be a while before you get pictures of that! Jack's room is next on my list. He's got some really cute stuff for his room, but I wont tell! You'll just have to wait for the pictures! Tomorrow Kellee and I are going to Romancing the Spouse in Dupont tomorrow. It's an event held to help the spouses of deployed soldiers get ready for their hunnies to come home. Lots of freebies and coupons! And who doesn't love freebies and coupons? Needless to say, Jack is doomed for yet another girly day. Daddy will have to do man dates with him when he gets home to make up for all this girly stuff I put him through.

Checkin' In

Feels like I never stop moving, except to go to sleep. Setting up this house and shopping for the furniture and decor items has kept me really busy. As well as helping out and hanging out with great friends! Just wanted to check in and make sure everyone knew I was still alive and bloggin', the Today Kellee and I went to Ikea (my second time going this week!). I bought our dining table, a bedside table for Jeff and I, and a crib mattress for Jack, a tent for Jack's room, a moose hanging rack thingy for Jack's room (pictures soon), and kitchen dishtowels. I bought lots of other stuff there earlier this week too. I still need to get our guest bed, a crib for Jack, lots of curtains for all the windows in this house, and a bookshelf or two. Then everything after that will be optional. I am not used to having this big of a place to decorate. There is so much wall space. I've bought a few things to hang on the walls but it still looks so empty. My dad shipped all my framed pictures and other wall things to me, and they should be arriving Wednesday, so hopefully once I get that stuff up it will be better too.

Happy Birthday Kellee!

My cupcake-lovin' friend Kellee turned 26 today. We went to Hello, Cupcake in Tacoma to celebrate and eat some amazing treats! In the 8 months I lived in Washington before, I had never been to Tacoma before today. I didn't get to see much but I think I will go back and visit the waterfront another day when we have warmer temperatures.

Jack also had his first taste of cupcake today...

He was equally pleases with his few bites as we were with our (more than a few) bites.

I also got to see Kelle's adorably girly kitchen today. Her husband told her that she could do whatever she wanted decor-wise in the kitche, that it was her space and she could have as much pink as she wanted as well! (Pink is another of her obsessions!) I hope that I can personalize my kitchen as much as she did. Maybe, not with the cupcakes and the color pink, but I would still like it to be cute like Kellee's!
